In wastewater treatment my main interest has been developing methods and processes based on viewing the system as a whole, understanding the interactions between the treatment process and its surroundings (e.g. the production process and the natural environment), and assessing the ecological as well as economical impact of the process. In environmental management the emphasis has been on larger systems, businesse or regions, investigating strategies to increase the sustainability of material flows, for example, those associated with textiles from the cradle to the grave.
