Spectrum - Laboratory Treatability Services
Direction through study; Spectrum Water Technology uses laboratory analysis as a critical tool in problem solving, and in developing a path forward to focus on cost savings and process efficiency. We use 4 primary testing devices – the Microscope, Biological Reactor, Respirometer, and lab scale Phase Separator. Through microscopic evaluation, respiration rate analysis, multiple condition biological reactors and solids separation/dewatering simulation, a Spectrum Water professional can define a path forward treatment plan and/or a solids removal and dewatering process for your specific needs.
Microscopic Examination
Looking at a wastewater system through the lens of a microscope can unlock several keys to the status of a wastewater plant.
- Overall Health
- Age
- Ratio of Biological vs Inert
- Filamentous Enumeration
- Polysaccharide Quantification
From the microscopic exam, recommendations can be given to improve the wastewater plant's performance and limit unwanted growth.
Respirometry Studies
Respirometry testing can be a valuable tool for measuring the impact of certain chemicals on the biological treatment plant. This testing is replaced in many cases by either batch reactors or flow through Eckenfelder reactors. The reactors can offer greater manipulation of process variables and typically provide a more complete analysis.
Treatability Studies
Spectrum utilizes a combination of batch reactors and Eckenfelder reactors to analyze a wastewater process and evaluate feed streams.
Most process streams or accumulated waste streams from turn arounds are biologically treatable given appropriate blend ratios. The use of these studies can give guidance to processing rates to assure biodegradability and no toxicity.
