SHARE

Heavy metals and organic contaminants can pose risks to the environment through migration and leaching from soil into surface water or groundwater. They can also be taken up by plants and vegetation. Stabilization and Sequestration supports the use of risk based remediation by amending soils to capture or bind the contamination in place and prevent exposure. Our unique solutions ensure that the soil and water maintains functional and effective re-use capacity.

STABILIZATION
Stabilization involves reducing the pollutants ability to partition from soil into water or biota, and thus their potential for transport and toxicity. The aim of stabilization is to target the contaminant as opposed to solidification which targets and changes the soil conditions. It can be achieved through direct application to the soil, whether on surface, in-place or in-situ as a permeable reactive barrier (PRB).

SEQUESTRATION
Sequestration involves precipitating the pollutants from within the groundwater and thus preventing transport and exposure. Sequestration creates a stable adsorbed or complexed scenario and preserves the aquifer conditions. It is typically achieved through in-situ injection or by emplacing transecting permeable reactive barriers (PRB).

SOIL WASHING
Soil washing is a treatment process that uses physical separation and chemical desorption techniques to remove contaminants in soil. This technology allows for recovery of the majority of the soil and is highly effective in large scale treatment systems.
