Structural Engineering and Construction Service
Building for the future: Our task is the development and the optimization of building components made of wood or wood-based materials to improve the fitness for use, to open up new and to enlarge existing application possibilities, as well as the reduction of costs. Building components made of wood and wood-based materials are submitted to important mechanical, safety and building-physical requirements and have to maintain confidently their properties throughout the entire life cycle of the building.

Test methods in combination with numerical simulation methods were developed to determine the fitness for use and to allow a statement on the behavior of the respective building component.
A research focus of the Department is the development of re-active fire protection systems to improve the behavior of building materials and the fire resistance of components, installations and structures. A further focus is the development of detailed solutions and new materials with improved fire characteristics.
