GPI incorporates sustainable design strategies and practices into our projects through an integrated approach that evaluates design and engineering decisions based on energy savings, life cycle costs, and environmental concerns. Energy conservation and efficient design, as well as material and systems selection, often provide payback to a client without adding significant initial cost to the project.

Through our approach, our projects strive for the best integration of sustainable design strategies and technologies to increase the efficiency of the building systems and reduce overall costs. Through careful product and systems selection, and sophisticated energy modeling software, we are able to produce design solutions that balance cost, energy efficiency, and environmental impact.

We employ U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) Rating System to evaluate our sustainable design projects. In fact, GPI’s Annapolis Junction office performed planning and design for the site work of the 32,000 sq ft Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Philip Merrill Environmental Center located on the Bay. GPI’s work included design of a 105-space parking lot, under building parking, an entrance road, stormwater management, site utilities, wetland creation/enhancements, shore protection, and a pier/boardwalk for waterfront access. This project earned the first ever Platinum LEED Certification from the nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council.
