Settentrionale Trasporti works also on the collection and shredding of used tires in order to recycle the rubber and turn it into combustible material called TDF (Tire Derived Fuel) to be employed for industrial purposes, being it particularly suitable for cement kilns. Moreover, all wires are properly extracted too, in order to recover the scrap metal which is to be used for the production of steel.

  • Processing
    • selection: all wasted tires unsuitable for grinding and all foreign bodies, which might jeopardize the required quality of the fuel to be obtained, are removed
    • grinding: the used tires are shredded into chips measuring no more than a few dozen millimetres, so as to produce a fuel having excellent properties of constant heat value per unity of volume
    • screening: a system of selection grates sieves the chipped material and rejects all particles failing to meet the required sizes by re-introducing them into the working cycle
    • wire extraction: at this point the shredded tires still include the metal wire used in order to give shape and structure to the steel belts and body cords ; the shredding process to significantly small sizes highlights the presence of such metal wires which are extracted once the particles undergo a magnetic separation from the rubber scraps.
