Facilitating TBMs in difficult situations is a specialty of ours is. Working together with the constructor and using our extensive knowledge regarding, for example, passing faults with conventional by-passes, re-establishing the face support in front of the TBM, or “just” the optimization of work processes, BabEng puts TBMs back on track. As time is of the essence, we utilize as much as possible the means, materials, and equipment already available on-site. These projects automatically have high priority with us. We respond within 24 hours.
BabEng has gained particular experience in TBM recovery over the years from frequent missions with different situations:
- Face collapse combined with a blocked cutterhead
- Non-accessible excavation chamber due to excessive compressed air loss
- Structural damage inside the excavation chamber
- Obstacle removal from the tunnel face
- Problems keeping the TBM within the alignment tolerances
- Trapped TBMs, either in hard rock or soft ground
- Non-accessibility from surface for large repair works
