Two-container Model for Separate Waste Collection

The widest-spread separate waste collection model is the two-container model. It includes two types of receptacles: the yellow container or the so-called “Beaver” type container for paper, plastic and metal waste packaging with the capacity of 1 100 l. and the green container or the so-called “Igloo” type container for glass waste packaging with the capacity of 1 400 l.

We chose that model for number of reasons:
- Opportunity for positioning a greater number of separate waste containers situated in the close proximity of the point of waste generation. In some living areas the separate waste containers are placed right next to the containers for mixed waste.
- It is more practical and easier for the people to separate the waste in two than in three parts, especially taking into account the large number of composite packaging;
- Separate waste containers are situated close to the containers for mixed waste which facilitates the people to dispose separate collected and household waste at the same time;
- In view of the traffic intensity and the lack of sufficient parking space in the cities, positioning the three color containers next to the containers for mixed waste streets would seriously obstruct car and pedestrian traffic;
- Optimization of separate waste collection expenses;
