StimUltrasonic Diagnostics of Steel Services

SHARE

Ultrasonic diagnostics of welded joints is a non-destructive method of welding joint integrity control and search for hidden and internal mechanical defects of unacceptable value and chemical deviations from the specified norm. The method of ultrasonic defectoscopy is used to diagnose various welded joints. Ultrasound effectively detects air voids, the chemical composition is not homogeneous (slag inclusions in the metal) and detect the presence of non-metallic elements. Ultrasonic diagnostics, surpass the accuracy of the results obtained by many other types of control.

Ultrasonic testing can detect the following defects:

  • cracks in the peri-seam area;
  • pores;
  • weld fails
  • Laminations of the welded metal
  • Seam inconsistencies and non-remelting;
  • defects of fistulous nature;
  • metal sagging in the lower zone of the weld;
  • areas affected by corrosion,
  • areas with discrepancies in chemical composition,
  • areas with distortion of geometric dimensions.
