All of Carpi‘s geomembrane installations can be performed underwater, with technologies that Carpi started developing at the beginning of the 1990ies. The waterproofing geomembrane system can be installed on the entire upstream face, or on leaking zones, or on failing joints and cracks only.

The benefits of an underwater installation are:
- offer the same benefits as the systems installed in the dry
- allow the facility to continue operations while installation takes place
- reduce environmental impact (no dewatering and refilling of reservoir, no impact on recreational areas and fish life, keep downstream conditions)
- avoid potential problems caused by unloading and loading of the structure.
