EPA first issued the Volatile Organic Compounds by Gas Chromatography/Massspectrometry method in 1996, which specifies that the measurement method of VOCs should be GC-MS. GC-MS can simultaneously perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of a variety of complex organics.The headspace method and the purge-and-trap method are used to analyze VOCs in the soil. This method depends on the sample concentration. The headspace method is simple and reproducible, allowing the use of an autosampler. The cleaning and trapping method uses a collector to concentrate the sample and can measure the low concentration sample with a sensitivity that is 10 to 100 times higher than the headspace method.
