VTU - Turn-key Solvent Recovery Services
From Turn-key Solutions
Organic solvents are widely used in the industry. As a consequence, large amounts of liquid waste with various solvents or other impurities must be disposed of. VTU offers tailor-made systems that reduce both the need of fresh solvents and the amount of contaminated solvents:Continuous or discontinuous distillation,Rectification in vacuum and pressure systems,Membrane processes, Extraction processes.

Economically attractive is in particular the ultrapurification of solvents. This is for example necessary in pharmaceutical production processes in order to meet the highest quality standards. We have extensive experience with two-component and multi-component systems, e.g. with methanol, ethanol, butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, hexane, dichloromethane, glycerol, isopropanol, MTBE, MEK, etc.
Recovery of pharmaceutical ethanol as an example:
If at all, the recovery of Ethanol 96% in pharmaceutical quality from wastes of blood plasma fractionating plants is performed by means of common rectification columns. Since the specifications are typically narrow, variations in feed concentration, occurrence of light ends like aldehydes and fouling from denaturising proteins lead to very personnel-intensive and thus expensive solutions. Membrane processes are a potential alternative to rectifications, but they are still under development and yet not reliable enough for daily use under industrial conditions.
VTU designed a special rectification plant that faces the above mentioned challenges and provides the following benefits:
- low height because of highly efficient column internals
- low fouling rate due to an advanced tray design and an innovative re-boiler concept
- insensible to light ends due to middle fractionation
- automated CIP despite very long cleaning intervals
- fully automated
