Water Extraction Services

Water Extraction presents a significant threat to fish or eels that are present in the vicinity of the extraction point. Whilst a screen could be used to prevent fish mortality this would also serve to obstruct the migration of eels.

Where a terminal pumping station exists, Bedford Pumps and Hidrostal can offer a solution to preserve the life of the eels and fish. A Fish Friendly pump can be used in combination with a Fish Friendly fine screen. An eel pass tube positioned below the screen will allow the eels to pass under the obstruction and then the Fish Friendly pump can be utilised to pass the eels directly out to sea in order to return to their spawning grounds.
