WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICTS

Birkitt has experience with most of the state water management districts, including South Florida Water Management District, Southwest Florida Water Management District, Suwannee River Water Management District, and St. John’s River Water Management District. One large project in the South Florida Water Management District is the Lake Okeechobee Isolated Wetlands Restoration and Creation Program (LOIWRCP). The objective of LOIWRCP is to route nutrient-rich water from agricultural lands through the restored/created wetlands to remove total phosphorus loads into the lake. LOIWRCP is a voluntary landowner cost-sharing program funded through the South Florida Water Management District.
