Whole House Water Filtration Systems Services

SHARE

A reverse osmosis filtration system can be installed directly beneath your sink to treat the water you drink. Staying safe from contaminated water doesn’t mean simply drinking filtered water. What about the water you use to bathe and wash clothes? A whole-home filtration system is designed to extract impurities from the water that flows from each of the fixtures in your home. Our team of licensed plumbers offers replacement and repair services for whole-house water filtration systems in areas such as Ardmore, Havertown, Broomall, and Drexel Hill. We are committed to improving the quality of your water.

BENEFITS OF INVESTING IN A WHOLE-HOUSE WATER FILTER SYSTEM

A whole-house system improves your quality of life far beyond providing clean drinking water. To help you determine if it’s time to improve the quality of your water, we have created a list of benefits of purchasing a water filter system.

BENEFITS

  • -Prevents bacteria growth
  • -Improves flavor of food, drinks, and ice
  • -Increases health of hair and skin
  • -Reduces frequency of filter changes and need for water filtration repair

HOW DOES A WHOLE-HOUSE WATER FILTRATION SYSTEM WORK?

A whole-house filtration system, also known as a point of entry system (POE), prevents contaminated water from entering your home. These systems are installed on the main water line to extract contaminants from water before it enters your house. All water passes through the system before its distribution to your fixtures and appliances.

STAGE 1: SEDIMENT FILTRATION

The first stage of sediment filtration removes visible particulate matter from your water. Untreated water from your main-line first passes through a 5-micron filter. A micron is a unit measuring particle size, and these filters come in two forms, nominal and absolute.

  • -Nominal filters capture 90% of particles 5 microns or larger
  • -Absolute filters capture 95% of everything 5 microns or larger

Once the sediment is removed from your water, the incoming water from your sink and fixtures will be less cloudy and safer to drink. No chemicals are removed during the first stage of the water treatment process. We offer water filtration system repair and installation services to homes in Ardmore and other areas in Pennsylvania. Removing sediment from your water keeps your system running efficiently.

STAGE 2: MINERAL FILTRATION

After the water passes through sediment filters, it is circulated to a copper-zinc mineral filter. This filter removes chlorine, heavy metals, microbes, and bacteria using Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF) media placed within the filter.

  • -Kinetic Degradation Fluxion media is a combination of high-purity zinc and copper granules
  • -Removes harmful compounds through redox chemical reaction
  • -Eliminates heavy metals like nickel and mercury through a chemical bond
  • -Kills bacteria and fungi
  • -May prevent limescale in pipes

Kinetic Degradation Fluxion media comes in various forms with a specific filtration designation. The type of media in your water filtration system will vary depending on what you need to remove from your water.

  • -KDF 55 media removes chlorine and heavy metals
  • -KDF 85 media extracts or reduces hydrogen and iron
  • -KDF-F (fine) media removes chlorine and bacteria
  • -KDF-C (coarse) media mitigates soluble heavy metals and chlorine

STAGE 3: ACTIVATED CARBON FILTRATION

The activated carbon filtration process involves distributing sediment-free water over a porous carbon surface. This activated carbon, made from a catalytic coconut-shell, acts as a sponge for hydrophobic contaminants.

THIS STAGE OF HOME WATER FILTRATION REMOVES:

  • -Chlorine
  • -Chloramine
  • -Iron
  • -Hydrogen Sulfide
  • -Suspended solids
  • -Pesticides and herbicides
  • -Gasses
  • -Dissolved solid contaminants
  • -Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)

When the water contacts activated carbon, contaminants become trapped in the carbon’s pores. These contaminants are dissolved into the carbon or locked into the pores.

STAGE 4: ULTRAVIOLET PURIFICATION

The final stage of home water filtration is ultraviolet purification. Ultraviolet purification uses UV light to eliminate 99% of harmful bacteria and pathogens.

  • -Gastroenteritis
  • -Influenza
  • -Hepatitis
  • -Cholera
  • -E Coli
  • -Giardia
  • -Cryptosporidium

Ultraviolet purification as an added safeguard costs very little to maintain. The bulbs need changing once a year or less. The light won’t affect the odor or taste of the water. The water treatment process will vary depending on the type of water purification system you purchase. Our staff of local plumbers will help you choose a filtration system that is designed to remove the specific types of contaminants in your water.
