Watch Aircraft Performance Team Lead Jordan Hovland and ForeFlight’s QA/Product Analyst and active Bombardier pilot Josh Pava demonstrate how ForeFlight’s integrated Runway Analysis and recently-enhanced Weight & Balance capabilities can help pilots and flight departments alike improve their flight planning workflows.

ForeFlight Runway Analysis simplifies and expedites your flight planning workflow and delivers trustworthy performance results based on manufacturer data. Sporting an intuitive and streamlined interface built directly into the Flights view, Runway Analysis incorporates data you’ve already entered to speed up its calculations and give you the critical information you need to make a Go/No-Go decision.

OEM-SOURCED FOR RELIABILITY
All aircraft models available with Runway Analysis are built entirely from OEM-provided data in accordance with AFM guidelines.

AUTOMATION KEEPS IT SIMPLE
ForeFlight’s sophisticated performance engine handles all the number crunching so you can focus on the results that matter.

CONVENIENTLY INTEGRATED
Runway Analysis fits seamlessly into ForeFlight’s existing flight planning workflow to maximize efficiency and produce consistent results.

At the heart of ForeFlight Runway Analysis is the complex Obstacle Analysis, which incorporates terrain and obstacles into its max takeoff weight calculations to guarantee clearance.

ENGINE OUT PROCEDURES
Plan with the default Straight Out procedure or optimize your weight margins with RNAV procedures developed by ForeFlight`s team.

ADDITIONAL OBSTACLES
Manually add temporary obstacles from NOTAMs to ensure the calculation incorporates all potential hazards.

Safety-Enhancing Warnings

ForeFlight provides a number of warning and error messages to let you know when the calculated results exceed the aircraft’s or runway’s limits, including aircraft-specific alerts for invalid takeoff or landing configurations or overweight warnings.

Emergency Return Included

A fully-featured Landing Analysis capability built into the Takeoff Analysis allows you to evaluate Return-To-Base scenarios using different runways and aircraft configurations to determine the best course of action in case of an emergency. ForeFlight provides warnings for exceeding brake energy or weight limits to help you determine the risks of each scenario.

3D Engine Out Procedures

Familiarize yourself with an airport’s EOPs before takeoff using interactive 3D terrain and aerial imagery. While viewing the Runway Analysis Takeoff page or the list of Engine Out Procedures, tap the 3D View button next to any EOP to open it in 3D.

Summary Document

View, share, and save a detailed breakdown of your Takeoff and Landing Analyses to assist with scenario planning and record-keeping. The Summary details all inputs and outputs to the analysis, including the text of the selected Engine Out Procedure, and also compares results under different weather and runway inputs so you can quickly gauge the feasibility of each combination.

Landing Factors

Easily comply with your Opspec’s landing allowance requirements by setting a Landing Factor to be multiplied by the calculated landing distance. ForeFlight provides preset factors corresponding to 60% (1.67, 1.92) or 80% (1.25, 1.44) of usable runway requirements, and also supports entering a custom factor.

Easy Scenario Planning

Rest easy when plans or conditions change. ForeFlight automatically pulls weather data from the most recent METAR, TAF, MOS, or general forecast at each airport to dial in performance calculations, and all environmental factors are user-editable for easy customization. See how your takeoff margins respond to a 10° OAT rise, or check climb performance from a balked landing in icing conditions.

Dispatch Integration

Runway Analysis is also supported in ForeFlight Dispatch`s flight planning view, allowing flight planners and pilots to incorporate these essential calculations into their flight plans and release the results to assigned crew members. Dispatch provides even more robust automation features than the mobile app, such as a checkbox to automatically select the optimal runway and EOP to maximize takeoff weight.
