When a work order is created, the number of utility workers and how long the job will take are defined. A work order has many “requirements”. A skill profile can also be defined related to a requirement. In other words, one can define certificate requirements or preference requirements. If a job requires a truck certificate, this can be defined.

An intuitive planning board

An important part of the application is resource availability on an intuitive planning board.

“The planning board provides an overview of all resources and all unplanned work orders (requirements). Using ‘drag-and-drop’, a requirement can be added to the calendar and thereby allocated to a resource,” says product manager at Powel, Ståle Nilsen.

If you have more resources to allocate, you will have more requirements. Each requirement is then dragged to the desired resource. A requirement is defined with a specific number of hours. A long-term requirement (over 7.5 hours) can be automatically distributed over several days.

“The requirements and the assumed location are shown on a map on the planning board. This makes the solution simple and intuitive to use,” says Nilsen.
