4 Hour Online DOT Hazmat Transportation General Awareness Training

The DOT Hazmat Transportation: General Awareness Training (DOT HMR-181) course is designed to provide an introduction to the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR Parts 171-180). This DOT Hazmat Transportation Training course encompasses the general awareness and the security awareness training requirements of the HMR.

This course is designed for hazmat employers and hazmat employees engaged in transportation of hazardous materials, including personnel who prepare, package, load, and unload cargo for shipment.

Hazmat employees must receive recurrent training at least once every three years. For employees engaged in transportation of hazardous materials by air, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires recurrent training once every two years. This course can be taken to meet the initial and refresher training requirements of the HMR.

The core objective of the DOT Hazmat Transportation: General Awareness Training (DOT HMR-181) is to familiarize workers with the general awareness training requirements of 49 CFR Part 172 Subpart H.

After completion of the DOT Hazmat Transportation: General Awareness Training course the learner will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose and applicability of the hazardous materials regulations (HMR);
  • Identify hazardous materials and the basic hazard classes and divisions;
  • Use the Hazardous Materials Table (HMT) and interpret the information contained therein;
  • Identify the information required for preparing hazardous material shipping papers and the hazardous waste manifest;
  • Understand the requirements for marking, labeling, and placarding of hazardous material shipments;
  • Outline the basic protocols for recognizing and responding to potential security threats.

Certificate & Wallet ID

Once the required study time of the DOT Hazmat Transportation Advanced General Awareness Training has been completed, you can take the final exam. When you pass the final exam, you will receive an electronic course completion certificate that will be emailed to you immediately.

A Plastic Wallet Card will arrive in U.S. mail within 2-3 weeks after you have uploaded your passport size photograph in your HAZWOPER OSHA Training account. A plastic wallet card will arrive via U.S. mail within 2-3 weeks upon request and the submission of a passport size photograph.
