The National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT) was formed as a Trade Association.

Following the introduction of Part P of the Building Regulations, in 2004, NAPIT was authorised to operate two electrical Competent Person Schemes (CPS); Full Scope and Defined Scope.

2005
NAPIT Training was launched delivering a comprehensive portfolio of its own training and assessment in addition to industry approved courses.

NAPIT was authorised to offer the TrustMark scheme to NAPIT Installers.

A bespoke insurance package for installers was launched under a new NAPIT Insurance brand.

2006
Plumbing, heating and ventilation were added to the list of Competent Person Schemes NAPIT are authorised to operate, for installers whose work falls under Parts F, G, H and L of the Building Regulations.

2007
The NAPIT Calibration service was launched allowing installers to calibrate their instruments quickly and efficiently.

A free legal advice service was set up for NAPIT Installers under the NAPIT Legal brand.

2009
NAPIT’s Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) was launched, following accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

2012
NAPIT gained UKAS accreditation to certify Installers and Assessor Organisations who wished to work under the Green Deal.

2013
NAPIT`s Competent Person Schemes were extended again to include doors, windows and insulation.

2014
DCLG authorised NAPIT to run a Third Party Certification scheme for electrical installations.
