Lockout Tagout (LOTO) training is essential for ensuring workplace safety by teaching employees how to effectively isolate and secure energy sources on machinery during maintenance or servicing. This training prevents unintended activation of equipment, significantly reducing the risk of accidents resulting from hazardous energy release in industrial settings. The course covers compliance with established standards such as OSHA and CCOHS, which aim to mitigate potential physical harm or fatalities among the estimated 3 million workers regularly servicing machinery. Completing the course successfully equips workers with the necessary knowledge to apply proper lockout and tagout techniques, ensuring machinery remains inactive during repairs, maintenance, or cleaning. Certification, valid for three years, is awarded upon passing a rigorous assessment, and the training is available both onsite and online. This comprehensive approach to LOTO ensures participants understand the legal implications, procedures, and the vital role of supervisors in maintaining compliance with safety regulations.

What is Lockout Tagout?

Lockout tagout is the process of isolating energy sources and putting locks or tags in place, to ensure the machinery cannot be turned on until the maintenance work is completed, and the locks/tags are removed, by the persons doing the maintenance on the machine.

Lockout Tagout - Why Is Controlling Hazardous Energy Sources Important?

Employees servicing or maintaining machinery or equipment could be exposed to serious physical harm or death if hazardous energy is not properly controlled. Industry workers, machine operators, and laborers are among the 3 million workers who service equipment on a regular basis and have the highest risk.

Compliance with the lock out tag out standards prevents an estimated 120 fatalities and 50,000 injuries each year. Workers injured on the job from exposure to hazardous energy lose an average of 24 workdays for recuperation.  If you have any questions pertaining to our onsite health & safety training courses or online safety training, please feel free to contact us.
