Learn how to become a professional ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) Lead Auditor in the comfort of your own space, at your own pace, anywhere where there is an internet connection, at a time to suit your diary.

This exciting course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively audit and assess an organisation's EMS against the requirements of the ISO 14001:2015 standard. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the structure of the ISO 14001 standard, the process approach, risk-based thinking, and continual improvement, plus the roles and responsibilities of a lead auditor, and the principles and practical skills of EMS auditing.

Through interactive exercises and case studies, you will have the opportunity to practice your skills and gain hands-on experience in planning, conducting, reporting, and following up on an audit. Upon completion of the course and successfully completing the CQI and IRCA exam, you will be issued with a CQI and IRCA Certificate of Achievement, recognised globally.

 

The course is split into 2 main components:

  • Self-Paced Online Learning via our Learning Management System (3 Days, approx 27hrs)
  • Practical Workshops delivered face-to-face by a Tutor, via live remote learning (2 Days)

STEP 1

ONLINE SELF-PACED MATERIALS (3 DAYS)

 

The 3 Day self-paced learning material is available immediately and can be completed at weekends, evenings, or any time you wish - from any location worldwide (office, home, internet cafe, etc).

Self-paced materials are a dynamic combination of video lessons, quizzes and engaging interactive exercises. Video lessons are of the very highest quality, developed by highly experienced trainers and auditors.

This stage is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices required for auditing an EMS. The course covers a wide range of topics that are essential to understanding the ISO 14001 standard and the auditing process, including; audit methodology, audit preparation, managing an audit team, determining compliance with the standard, interview techniques, following audit trails, documenting evidence and so much more.

Course lessons can be done in small or large steps and completed over days or weeks (to your own schedule). Re-watch online material as many times as you wish to strengthen your knowledge.

 

 

STEP 2

ONLINE TUTOR LED WORKSHOP (2 DAYS)


Once the online self-paced materials are completed, our 2-day practical workshops are the perfect next step for anyone looking to learn the practical skills needed to excel as a Lead Auditor and pass the certification exam. 

Our experienced trainers will guide you through an engaging and interactive mock audit experience, using roleplays, case studies, and other activities based around a realistic, fictitious company. These sessions allow learners to practice auditing skills by interviewing a variety of company characters and personalities, providing an efficient and effective way to enhance learning and develop the necessary mindset and skill set for success as a lead auditor.

SEQMT workshops are led by seasoned auditors and trainers, utilising modern learning techniques to provide an unparalleled learning experience. Throughout the sessions, learners will receive regular feedback and guidance, helping them to confidently navigate the various situations encountered and build their knowledge and skills, enabling them to become a truly effective auditor.

 


STEP 3

CQI AND IRCA EXAM AND CERTIFICATE


Following the last day of the workshop, you have up to 30 days to take the CQI and IRCA multiple choice exam online, at a place and time convenient to your schedule.

A tutor will run through the exam format and CQI and IRCA exam platform during the workshop. You will have an opportunity to practice answering questions using a practice portal before attempting the final certification exam.

On passing, you will be sent a CQI and IRCA Certificate of Achievement.

SEQM Training has a very high pass rate, however, if you need to resit the exam then you will have one more chance to resit within 12 months.

Delegates who complete this CQI and IRCA Certified Training course successfully (within the five years prior to making an application to become a certificated auditor) will satisfy the training requirements for initial certification as an IRCA auditor.

STEP 1:

ONLINE SELF-PACED MATERIALS (3 DAYS)

  • Principles of environmental management systems and the ISO 14001 standard
  • Familiarization with the structure and key elements of an EMS, including the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle
  • The process for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an EMS
  • Understanding the concepts of environmental performance evaluation and environmental aspects and impacts
  • The documentation and records required for an EMS Understanding the legal and regulatory requirements related to
  • environmental management and how to identify and evaluate compliance with them
  • The role of a lead auditor and continual improvement of the EMS Introduction to auditing principles, techniques, audit stages, reporting findings and auditor competence



STEP 2:

ONLINE TUTOR LED PRACTICAL WORKSHOP (2 DAYS)

  • Audit Planning and Preparation Conducting Audits
  • Conducting Opening Meetings Interview Techniques
  • Data Analysis Evaluating Findings
  • Report Writing and Following Up Conducting Closing Meetings

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is designed for those who wish to understand how to conduct 1st, 2nd and 3rd party audits on organisations' environmental management systems against the ISO 14001:2015 standard.

 

It is also suitable for individuals or company employees who are responsible for maintaining, implementing, or auditing an organisation's environmental management system against the ISO 14001 standard, including:

  • Auditors needing to refresh their certificates as part of CQI and IRCA's membership requirements.

PRE-REQUISITES

Those attending this course are expected to have knowledge of the following: 

a)         Management systems

  • The Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle
  • The core elements of a management system and the interrelationship between top management responsibility, policy, objectives, planning, implementation, measurement, review, and continual improvement.

 

b)         Environmental management

The intended outcomes of an EMS:

  • Enhancement of environmental performance
  • Fulfilment of compliance obligations
  • Achievement of environmental objectives

 

c)         ISO 14001

  • Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 14001 and the commonly used environmental management terms and definitions, as given in ISO 14001, which may be gained by completing a CQI and IRCA Certified ISO 14001:2015 Foundation (EMS) training course or the equivalent.

This knowledge can be gained through:

  • Attending a CQI and IRCA certified training ISO 14001 Foundation course or recognised equivalent such as SEQM’s Foundation Course:
  • Previous experience and existing knowledge.
  • Self-education


As well as a good knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 and the key principles of a EMS, it would help (but is not essential) if you have attended an internal or any other lead auditor course or have experience conducting internal or supplier audits.
