DOT General Awareness of Hazardous Materials Course
This course provides general awareness training for hazardous materials transportation as required by the United States Department of Transportation. Participants will learn about U.S. and International regulations governing the transportation of hazardous materials, classification of hazardous materials, and security awareness requirements, all in accordance with the USDOT regulations.
The USDOT requires training for anyone who handles hazardous materials, including individuals who ship or receive hazardous materials, prepare hazardous materials for transportation, and load or unload hazardous materials.
The USDOT requires employees to receive general awareness, function specific, safety and security awareness training as part of a comprehensive hazardous materials program. This course covers the general awareness and security awareness topics required by 49 CFR 172.704.
At the completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate which includes the participants name, completion date, and copy of the test scores. The certificate includes the name and address of the trainer as required for recordkeeping.
This course is based on the requirements for general awareness training as specified in 49 CFR 172.704 (Subpart H), including testing of participants. While this course is meant to satisfy USDOT's general training requirements, it does not cover function specific training. DOT requires hazmat employees receive training at least once every three years.
