The training will demonstrate the most advanced tools and techniques available in solid waste management, and will instruct you on how to employ them in participatory interventions with local stakeholders, especially during decision making processes related to solid waste management. By applying the acquired knowledge and provided tools to your local contexts you will be able to assess and understand how and why waste management systems often fail and what steps can be undertaken to make them more efficient and sustainable. In addition, throughout this training you will get fundamental guidelines on preparing and delivering successful training tailored to the needs of your future audience.
Introductory 3-day Training on Integrated Sustainable Waste Management is facilitated by an experienced solid waste advisor and trainer who has over 20 years of international experience gained in 25 countries worldwide.
The purpose of this training is to introduce you to the concepts of integrated sustainable waste management, advanced tools and techniques used in the field. You will be taught how to assess and find appropriate solutions to the waste problems for the community you are working with.
This 3-day comprehensive training that will equip you with the necessary skills to carry out situational analysis, introduce you to methods and approaches and give you the know-how of how to identify practical sustainable solutions for waste management.
The Training´s Objectives is:

To demonstrate understanding of the wide range of environmental, health and social issues related to waste management.

To enhance basic understanding of waste generation and its sources, waste characterization and classification.

To introduce and explore the main phases of solid waste systems, such as generation, storage, collection, transport and transfer, recovery and recycling and disposal.

To introduce and discuss One-Dimensional Versus Multi-Dimensional Management Approach to waste management.

To identify and discuss the role of stakeholders and actors involved in and affected by solid waste management.

To identify practical, integrated and sustainable solutions for waste management.

To introduce and practice tools and techniques that allow communities to understand the properties of waste; assess the impacts waste has on their livelihoods.

To enhance practical skills of NGO’s in creating and delivering waste related training programs.

Understand the principle issues related to integrated sustainable waste management.

Become familiar with the main properties of waste (generation, sources, characterization, classification, physical and chemical properties).

Understand the factors that influence the properties of waste, and how these properties differ geographically and have varied over time.

To assess, describe and analyse how waste is generated and managed in their own community and what their role is herein.

Become familiar and understand the main phases of a solid waste management system.

Assess and discuss the differences and similarities between an One-Dimensional Versus Multi-Dimensional Management Approach to waste management.

Map and describe actors and stakeholders involved in solid waste management.

Learn how of basic tools and techniques available related to ISWM. (waste streams, characterisation studies, stakeholder mapping, waste flow diagram, collection routing and scheduling, mapping tools, basic financial and economic aspects) can be applied, and in particular in faciltating participatory processes with communities.
Agenda
The training will be performed through a live virtual classroom, where you will be able to ask questions, participate in the practical exercises and listen to the trainer's lecture. The training starts at 9:00 AM CET (Paris Time).
