National Water Hygiene Scheme - Course
The National Water Hygiene Course (‘Blue Card’) has been delivered by Achieve Safety Ltd since 2008. In that period we have trained thousands of UK workers so that can get on the water company sites to do their work. We have trained electricians, pump engineers scaffolding and surveyors. Since the Covid-19 training across the UK has changed and the reflect those changes we now provide training in many different ways to suit our customers needs. We provide training in the following ways – Zoom videoconferencing, e-learning and face-to-face training which can be held at your premises or alternatively you can attend one of our regular Warrington training courses.

If you are working on a ‘Restricted Operation’ on behalf of a water company subcontractor or other organisation, such as Self-Lay Organisation (SLOs) – then you need a National Water Hygiene EUSR registration.
The National Water Hygiene (Blue) card is part of the scheme which has been developed at the request of Water UK. Any person working on restricted operations sites must be in possession of a National Water Hygiene Card. This includes water main works on public roads.
The National Water Hygiene scheme is a program developed in collaboration with all UK water companies and key stakeholders from across the water industry. The scheme ensures that anyone entering operational sites can demonstrate an understanding of safe drinking water practices and protect public health. The content covers all the required knowledge and awareness of good water hygiene practices. The scheme consists of four modules:
The Modules are:-
Module 1: The importance of drinking water
Module 2: How drinking water can be a potential carrier of disease
Module 3: Potential contamination and its consequences on people
Module 4: Preventing contamination of the drinking water supply
All UK water companies require individuals entering clean water sites or working on the clean water network – known as ‘Restricted Operations’, to hold a National Water Hygiene EUSR registration. Our National Water Hygiene (‘Blue Card’) scheme plays a vital part in ensuring the protection of public health and promoting good water hygiene practices.
