Training Seminar on Human Rights and the Environment
The European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) are seeking applications for a training seminar which will analyse the existing ties between human rights and the environment for a more sustainable development. A human rights based approach is the key factor at the basis of the seminar which analyses environmental issues such as biodiversity, sustainable development, ecosystem services, global warming, over-fishing, water shortages, deforestation, desertification in the context of social, political and economic rights, transitional justice, indigenous people rights and the law of armed conflicts.

The European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) are seeking applications for a training seminar which will analyse the existing ties between human rights and the environment for a more sustainable development.
A human rights based approach is the key factor at the basis of the seminar which analyses environmental issues such as biodiversity, sustainable development, ecosystem services, global warming, over-fishing, water shortages, deforestation, desertification in the context of social, political and economic rights, transitional justice, indigenous people rights and the law of armed conflicts.
The methodology of the seminar includes lectures, discussions, working groups and case studies, which will engage lecturers and participants in sharing experiences, knowledge and practice concerning the relevant policies on human rights and environmental governance at international, regional and national level.
Speakers: The faculty is composed of academics and practitioners actively involved in the field of human rights and well-known ecologists specialised in environmental policies and conservation issues. Representatives of the UNEP, the OHCHR, the EU and the World Bank, together with NGO experts and scholars will present and discuss the seminar topics from different perspectives.

Participants: The seminar, held in English, is open to graduate students from all disciplines willing to deepen their knowledge in this field. It is further open to officials from regional, national and international organisations wishing to better understand how to integrate human rights and environmental issues in their daily work.
