Smart metering is a crucial factor for the efficient functioning of the Internal Electricity Market, as well as for the successful implementation of European Union policies related to energy efficiency, renewable energy and security of supply.

Smart metering will benefit consumers, suppliers, metering companies, distribution network operators and the public interest, creating new business opportunities. However, for these benefits to be achieved, we need changes in policy (e.g. demand response) and new regulatory approaches (including tariffs, ancillary service markets, incentives for new investments, etc.). The seminar discusses how to speed-up introduction of smart metering and how to maximize benefits.
