Oil Mist Separators for Shipbuilding

A  Contec oil mist separator (COMS), type 9.200/762, with special frame construction for the lubrication system of the energy supply is being used on the latest cruise ship of the Celebrity Cruises shipping line. The energy requirements of the cruise ship - built by Meyer Werft Papenburg - is covered by four MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, type 14V48/60CR, diesel engines. The Contec oil mist separator, type 9.200/762, with upstream demister and M6 filter cartridge ensures the reduction of particle contamination. Throughput: 1,200 Nm³/h @ 50 Hz.

For PM emission control in high temperature exhaust streams, such as fuel oil boilers, usual dedusters such as bag filters are very maintenance demanding. Particularly, diesel and fuel particulates are very sticky and clog to filter elements, unless protection reagents are used. Flue gas cooling is also needed in front of the filter when temperatures are higher than 200 ºC. On the other hand, regular cyclones and multicyclones are frequently not able to reduce emissions to present emission limits.
