Brine Streams Contain Water System for Environment - Environmental
Leachate, an unpleasant and inevitable problem that is here to stay. Looking for a concentration and crystallization technology that is very robust and reliable.
Worldwide, more and more solutions are being developed to process streams containing the byproducts of both bottom ash-washing and other new technologies, so that both the minerals and the process water can be reused. After processing these streams, there remain brines that are more difficult to treat. These brines must be treated properly to prevent environmental damage or to achieve maximal re-use results.
Another challenge that can also cause environmental problems is leachate. Leachate is the liquid that drains or ‘leaches’ from a solid waste landfill. It varies widely in composition regarding the age of the landfill and the type of waste that it contains. It usually contains both dissolved and suspended material.
All these factors make leachate treatment difficult and complicated. As a result, it is one of the industry’s greatest challenges. If this leachate is not handled properly, it can have major environmental consequences
- Leachate varies widely in composition
- At this moment, it is still impossible to eliminate leachate
- Without treating the leachate properly, it can have major environmental consequences
The Dyvar® technology
Turning landfills into material mining operations
Our Dyvar® technology is a robust, reliable concentrator and crystallizer technology that can treat leachate or effluent from existing treatment plants to produce fresh water (<100mg/l TDS) and highly concentrated brine or solids for return to landfill, incineration, or subterranean disposal.
Pilot and full scale plants have already proven successful in treating raw leachate and RO concentrate. In cases where landfills already treat their leachate with an RO plant, our Dyvar® technology can be used to further concentrate this RO brine.
By concentrating this brine with our Dyvar® technology, 70% to 90% of the leachate is recovered. This reduction will lower the volume of this leachate by at least 7 to 10 times. As a result, less hauling is required to dispose of the leachate.
- Ease of operation, 24/7, little operator attendance
- Electricity as single energy source
- Capability of treating a wide range of brines with fluctuating TDS
- Capability of treating a wide range of COD (100-20.000mg/l) and wide pH Range (1-14)
- Adjustable brine outlet concentration possible (oversaturated brine or salt crystals)
- All-in-one unit, combining desalination, concentration and crystallization
- Compact, containerized, modular plug and play solution
- Up to 40% less energy needed compared to conventional Zero Liquid Discharge systems
