The exponential growth of the world’s population during the last years has created the need to increase underground communication routes, to relieve congested roads and reduce acoustic and environmental pollution in in increasingly overcrowded cities. The modern excavation technologies for Tunnelling envision the use of enormous TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines) and the use of a liquid sludge containing bentonite to seal the walls as soon as the Tunnel is excavated.
The centrifuge has dual use in this field: the first is that of separating and recycling the excess bentonite used by the excavation sludge, which contains solid particles of rock as well as sand, clay and silt. The second use is more classical; that of water separation, which is obviously re-used in the industrial sector, from the solid parts it contains. These are also re-cycled or disposed of.
