Optics in Aerospace

Design / Manufacturing
3D Optical Profilers and Laser Interferometers support many of the phases of the product development/manufacturing life cycle. Detection of abnormalities and deformities allows for early correction in the design and many of the subsequent manufacturing processes. The ability to measure sub-micron tolerances repeatably enables a manufacturer to monitor process control and assembly. 3D Profilers can easily be configured for fully automated inspection using a combination of hardware and advanced Mx software features.
Additive Manufacturing
Additive Manufacturing is transforming the manufacture of end-use parts and assemblies in the aerospace industry. Many composite materials being used are a combination of fibers in a resin matrix, including carbon and glass-reinforced plastic.3D Optical Profilers are the metrology instrument of choice to ensure that 3D printed parts adhere to extremely tight design specifications—avoiding costly scrap and rework.
Coatings
Within the Aerospace Industry, a variety of optical components require coatings to enhance performance and improve durability. These coatings are used in aircraft, satellites, drones and unmanned aerial vehicles. They are applied to lenses, windows, sensors, and mirrors with the function of controlling light transmission, reflection, and absorption. Large Aircraft Windows
EO/IR windows are often used in UAVs, fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters. These windows make terrain mapping, obstacle detection and navigation possible. Made of materials such as optical glass, sapphire, or coated acrylics, they are designed to withstand abrasion, moisture, and broad temperature conditions.
