According to Jimco, supplier of industrial environmental technology, air quality and disinfection should not merely be prioritizedin production areas. Thanks to new technology for automatic disinfection, Jimconow offers total solutions for entire buildings.

Through the past 20 years Jimco air purification systems have been used by industrial enterprises - e.g. foreliminating odour emissions, improving indoor air quality and reducing fire hazards as well as risks of infection. Recently, the use of the patented technology acquired a new dimension with the FLO-D system for automatic, chemical-free disinfection of surfaces. Thanks to this solution, Jimco now provides total solutions for industrial enterprises.

- Manual disinfection is time-consuming, and it is impossible to get completely into all corners. At the same time, harsh chemicals are applied which are both detrimental to the outside environment and the working environment. With the new technology this process is completely automated. The FLO-D system enables more effective disinfection, also inside the ventilation ducts, and saves water and energy for heating. Also.discharging chlorinated sewage is prevented, says Jimmy K. Larsen, CEO of Jimco A/S.

Most Bacteria in Offices
In industrial enterprises, indoor air quality and disinfection is usually prioritized much higher in the production areas than in the offices. -For example, we were contacted by a factory where high concentration of microorganisms was suspected-in the production areas. However, our analyses showed a 100 times higher germ concentration in the offices. This demonstrates that one should focus on the entire building, explains Jimmy Larsen, who designates air conditioning systems the main bacterial source of offices.

Air conditioners are effective conveyor belts for all kinds of micro-organisms and infection, from colds to H1N1. If one employee sneezes, he can potentially infect all his colleagues when air is recirculated. Many people think that air conditioners mainly make people sick because the temperature is set at a too low level. But most often it is rather a question of the installations recirculating bad air says the CEO. He has experienced absence due to illness decline significantly in businesses that use air purifiers to sterilize recirculated air before blowing it out in the premises.

Air Purification and Disinfection-Combined

Jimmy Larsen regards a combination of air purification and surface disinfection the optimal solution to indoor climate problems. - FLO-D for automatically disinfecting surfaces may be used in conjunction with our air purification solutions, which are typically mounted in connection with existing ventilation systems. This results in a total solution that purifies the air and disinfects the surfaces of the room. Such a package would reduce the sickness absence and streamline cleaning in many companies, and the payback time would be short, he says.

The air is treated with UV-C light and the ultraviolet rays burn microorganisms in the  air. Bacteria that pass through the air purifier are killed, and according to laboratory tests the concentration of microorganisms is reduced by more than 99%. The result is much less germs in the air, explainsthe CEO. When there is no human being in the rooms, it may be advantageous to follow up with automatic disinfection. - New tests carried out in collaboration with the University of Southern Denmark show that the FLO-D system is capable of almost completely breaking down e.g. listeria and salmonella bacteria in the room within two hours, Jimmy Lar-senconcludes. He also refers to positive results of full-scale tests in industrial enterprises performed in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark and the National Institute of Aquatic Resources.
