Monitoring VOCs in wastewater in an ATEX 2 environment - Case Study
APPLICATION
Monitoring wastewater coming into a treatment plant to detect explosive levels of VOCs from surface runoff.
CUSTOMER
Wastewater plant, UK
PROBLEM
Waste Water entering a treatment lant is a com-bination of domestic and commercial waste wa-ter and surface run off. All of these could have high levels of fuel in them, but particularly during high rainfall washes fuels into drains. These high levels have the potential to produce explosive gases withing the enclosed screen building.
PRODUCT
MS1200-ATEX, 4-20mA output, audible and vis-ual alert output.
WHY MULTISENSOR?
The customer needed a contactless system with ATEX 2 certification.
INSTALLATION FACTS
The MS1200-ATEX is a version of the MS1200 certified to ATEX 2 level. The sample is taken from above the channel via a pipe without any sampling tank. The drain is an open channel, and the instrument provides an alarm, triggering audio and visual alarms, when VOC levels higher than those set by the client are detected.
Additionally, this system has a high-level flow protection where, in the case of the inlet water being very high, it switches automatically to an alternative intake above the raised water level.
