Nov. 24, 2025

Background and Purpose

Mixed MSW refers to a broad spectrum of waste types, including recyclable waste, food and kitchen waste, hazardous waste, and combustible materials. JONO has proactively developed and deployed MBT technology that enables automated classification, sorting, and recovery of valuable materials from mixed waste streams.

The goal is to reduce landfill dependency, optimize incineration processes, and support the national strategy for ecological civilization and carbon neutrality.

Project Overview

The Gaomi Mixed Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Treatment Project stands as a landmark initiative in China`s push toward intelligent, sustainable waste management. Developed by Suzhou JONO Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., this project introduces a state-of-the-art mechanical-biological treatment (MBT) solution that addresses the complexities of mixed MSW through automation, precision, and efficiency.

The project is a large-scale mechanical pre-treatment facility designed to process up to 2,000 tons of mixed MSW per day. Positioned as a critical upstream solution before incineration in a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler, the project utilizes advanced Mechanical-Biological Treatment (MBT) technology independently developed by Suzhou JONO Environmental Technology.

Project Highlights

Intelligent Mechanical Sorting System

Leveraging a two-stage shredding and mechanical separation process, the system efficiently recovers ferromagnetic metals, non-combustibles (such as glass, stones, and ash), and combustibles from the waste stream.

Innovative Shredding Technology

JONO uses high-performance shredders to produce 80mm-sized Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF). This enhances fuel uniformity, improves combustion efficiency, and reduces emissions treatment load in the downstream incineration system.

Sustainable Resource Recovery

Post-sorting, organic fractions undergo microbial fermentation to generate high-quality bio-fertilizers, while plastic-rich components are pelletized into Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF), contributing to clean energy production and waste-to-resource transformation.

Smart Factory Model

As part of JONO’s intelligent waste treatment portfolio, this project represents a model of automated, digitized, and standardized solid waste processing, enabling improved classification rates and operational efficiency.

Conclusion
The Gaomi Mixed MSW Treatment Project exemplifies how cutting-edge mechanical-biological treatment, international collaboration, and intelligent automation can transform municipal waste management. By significantly improving pre-incineration waste sorting, enhancing combustion performance, and reducing environmental impact, the project supports China’s strategic push for a greener, low-carbon circular economy. It sets a benchmark for future smart waste management facilities nationwide and globally.
