Building on a Legacy of Marine Technical Services
Safety, risk and integrity management are at the core of everything we do. We began providing non-classification marine services in 1971 from our original headquarters in New York. Over the decades, we have worked as a strategic partner of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), one of the world's leading marine and offshore classification societies founded in 1862.
We have continued to build on ABS Group's reputation for setting standards of excellence in the marine and offshore industries as an independent technical services provider. Today, the ABS Group operating subsidiaries support an even broader spectrum of highly technical industries that power, fuel and regulate our world.
ABS Group, which refers to one or more affiliated companies, is a subsidiary of ABS.
In 2012, we expanded service offerings and geographic coverage in key markets with the strategic acquisition of Safetec Nordic AS, headquartered in Trondheim, Norway, and Genesis Technology Solutions, Inc. (GenesisSolutions), based in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Safetec added new technical depth and a strong Norwegian and North Sea presence to our existing safety and risk consulting services. GenesisSolutions brought robust capabilities in enterprise asset management, computerized maintenance management systems and asset performance optimization.
As we continued to expand safety and risk management solutions in the offshore market, ABS Quality Evaluations (ABS QE), another of our core businesses, became the first audit provider accredited by the Center for Offshore Safety to conduct safety and environmental systems (SEMS) audits for assets operating in the Gulf of Mexico.
To address the needs of integrated power customers, we combined our successful nuclear and renewable energy divisions and added talent to serve the broader power generation, transmission and distribution markets. In 2013, the Power division of ABS Group completed a Level 2 probabilistic risk assessment – the second such study performed worldwide – for a European nuclear power plant. Our reliable contribution to nuclear legacy plants and utilities have included providing post-Fukushima stress test analyses, seismic support and electrical control and instrumentation support.
During the last 20 years, our core capabilities in the Government sector have expanded to include maritime, homeland security, offshore and risk management. We have provided multiyear support to the US Coast Guard Research and Development Center and Surface Forces Logistics Center and supported the Department of Homeland Security's implementation of the Chemical Facility Antiterrorism Standards program. We also assist the following organizations:
- Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE)
- Transportation Security Administration
- Federal Emergency Management Agency
- Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Emergency Management
Today, we provide a range of oil and gas support services for BSEE, as well as municipal water authorities, and continue to work with various international ministries and regulatory bodies through our operating subsidiaries in the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions.
Since its creation in 1947, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published nearly 20,000 standards covering most aspects of technology and business, which are designed to make industries more effective and efficient. ABS QE has offered management systems certification services since 1991 and over the years, reaching certification milestones such as becoming an accredited audit provider for ISO 50001 and SEMS in 2013. Building on these achievements, ABS QE recently became the first global Certification Body to receive ANAB ISO 55001 accreditation from the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB).
As we adapt to new operating landscapes, ABS Group remains committed to the needs of industry. Our reputation for technical expertise and industry-leading solutions is our foundation as we continue to help you improve efficiency and reliability, manage risk and integrity and, above all, meet the requisite level of safety in the markets we serve.
We are a reputable international authority in the marine industry in part due to our heritage as a subsidiary of leading classification society, ABS. Our team is one of the world's most experienced helping owners of marine and shipping assets adopt new technologies and go beyond compliance to stay ahead in today's challenging marketplace.
Complex offshore assets require careful maintenance and asset management strategies to optimize performance, reliability and profitability over their complete life cycle. Our dedicated offshore team employs a comprehensive risk-based approach to help you achieve maximum uptime with lower OPEX costs in a safer and more compliant manner.
Oil, Gas and Chemical

With unparalleled industry knowledge and commitment to providing high-value performance and management services, our goal is to help clients achieve operational excellence and maintain safer, more profitable operation within the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors.
In today's evolving and highly competitive power markets, owners of conventional, renewable and nuclear power plants and other energy assets seek new ways to implement capital projects successfully and achieve world-class performance and compliance to realize their expected return on investment. We offer integrated technical capabilities and services to address these primary areas of concern for our clients in the power sector.
For more than 20 years, we've provided risk management services to the US Government and other international authorities. As these global agencies contend with increasingly diverse risks and additional demand on their resources, we continue to expand our solutions for safety, risk and integrity management to help them meet organizational needs as well as understand and manage risk exposure.
Our experience in safety and risk management, performance optimization and quality assurance can be applied across multiple industries. We've helped clients in aerospace, automotive, pharmaceuticals, mining, process industries and commercial properties improve efficiency and reduce risk.
