ALTEK invented the dross press in the early 1990s. Following the acquisition of the TARDIS dross press business in 2009, the two technologies were combined to produce the TARDIS Generation II Dross Press range we see today. Worldwide dross press references for ALTEK now total over 550, it has been proven to be the best technology for recovering aluminium units from dross and is the most widely used dross processing technology in the Aluminium Industry.

ALTEK presents the most versatile and cost-effective Electromagnetic Stirring (EMS) system available to the aluminium industry. Since its launch in 2009/2010, ALTEK`s Low Energy, Air-Cooled Electromagnetic Stirrers have become the benchmark for non-contact furnace stirring technology.

ALTEK have developed a specialised salt slag press to extract as much aluminium out of slag as possible. Salt slag differs from aluminium dross due to it having a lower aluminium content and a higher temperature when taken out of the furnace.

ALTEK was the inventor of the dross press in the early 1990s and at that time had a relationship with a UK company called J M McIntyre, who distributed the ALTEK products. Following this the TARDIS press was initiated and the two systems from the same birthplace became available in the market.

Aluminium is, due to its properties, the second most used metal after iron. Recycling is a major aspect of continued aluminium use, with more than a third of all globally produced aluminium currently originating from old, traded and new scrap.

In recent years, the value of pressing salt slag or salt-free slag produced from tilting rotary furnaces (TRFs) has become more prominent within the aluminium industry. The salt slag bins we supply are designed specifically to cope with the extreme heat generated from TRFs and can be used in a variety of dross press models and alternatively as a standalone salt slag cooling process.

All ALTEK TARDIS Gen II Dross Press and Salt Slag models are fitted with a specially designed, cast steel press head, suited to the mould of the dross pan which has been supplied.
