Many of our projects are a direct result of requirements imposed on our clients from the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Clean Air Act (CAA) or Clean Water Act (CWA). August Mack Environmental, Inc. is based on two fundamental principles, which ensure the company maintains its focus throughout an ever changing technological and business environment. These principles guide August Mack through its mission to provide sound, economical and permanent solutions to environmental problems. They are superior client service and a strong commitment to employees. Regardless of the nature of the work or the business climate, these principles enable August Mack to be successful for both its clients and its employees.
For all applicable projects, August Mack will provide the client with alternatives for addressing environmental concerns. Long term, permanent solutions will be provided as options at all times. These options will address regulatory compliance strategies, pollution prevention and control and investigation/remediation technologies. This approach will better inform the client of the risks and costs associated with each option and encourage participation in the solution that best serves the client’s needs.

History
History
August Mack Environmental, Inc. was founded in 1988 by Geoffrey A. Glanders and Bryan K. Petriko. At the time of the company’s founding, the owners had an entrepreneurial spirit and knew they wanted to create a different kind of environmental consulting firm. They were young, optimistic consultants with “big ideas” on how to change the face of consulting and were supported by a group of individuals that provided an enormous amount of hard work, moral support and guidance to help them achieve this goal. They desired to combine the abilities of geologists with the talents of engineers to develop a full-service organization that could provide superior, cost-effective, client-focused solutions to environmental problems. Given their background in geology and engineering, they were able to take the initiative to change the philosophy of consulting by providing turnkey investigation, design and construction services for remediation projects customized to the client’s needs. This approach allowed the company to experience impressive growth rate and develop long-term client relationships that have lasted for more than 20 years. In fact, 25 percent of the clients obtained in the company’s first year of operation are still clients today - that’s true brand loyalty.
Another goal Glanders and Petriko had when they started the company was to develop an employee-focused culture that would promote growth from within the organization. In order to continue the growth the company experienced from providing clients with a new approach to handling their environmental problems, the company decided to expand its geographic reach and service area offerings. In mid-1992, the company opened its first satellite office by relocating one of its Indianapolis employees to Dublin, Ohio, to better meet the needs of clients. In addition to expanding geographically for employee development, August Mack continually focused on expanding its service areas to ensure the company did not become solely dependent on one particular aspect of environmental consulting. In the 1980s, the company’s primary service area was Underground Storage Tank (UST) management and soil and groundwater remediation. In the mid-1990s, the company expanded its regulatory compliance department to become more focused on permitting and reporting due to the implementation of the Clean Air Act Amendments and the direct needs of our industrial client base. This growth allowed August Mack to relocate existing staff to Baltimore to open a new office in order to better service an existing client. (The Baltimore office later relocated to Lancaster, Pennsylvania.) In 1999, August Mack developed eCAP®, a comprehensive environmental, health and safety (EH&S) program that allowed the company to team with clients by taking full responsibility for their EH&S compliance program. In 2000, August Mack opened an office in Detroit, Michigan as well as expanded health and safety services to provide training and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance for its clients. The most recent expansion was in 2007 when the company opened its St. Louis, Missouri office and re-emphasized its work associated with transaction related projects by updating its online Phase I Environmental Site Assessment ordering system. In 2008, August Mack commemorated its 20th Anniversary.
