About Us
Formed from several decades of experience in the purification and distribution of water as well as the supply and maintenance of premium laboratory equipment, Avidity is home to the Edstrom and Triple Red brands which the industry know and trust.
At Avidity Science, some of our key philosophies are of Quality, Integrity, and Safety.
Our commitment to these ideas are reflected in the certification to ISO 9001:2015 across both of our manufacturing sites in Wisconsin (USA) and Buckinghamshire (UK). We are proud to be nominees, finalists, and winners of a variety of awards including Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year and UK Business Awards. Avidity is also one of only eleven companies in the entire state of Wisconsin to receive the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award from OSHA. The award honors companies that operate superb safety and health management systems, and who maintain an injury and illness rate below the national average for their industry.
Alongside our endeavors to manufacturing excellence, Avidity believes that fostering a 'Green' disposition minimizes our carbon footprint. Our electronics recycling program has netted 726kg of recyclables, and our lighting conversion program saved over £47,000 in energy costs since its inception in 2008. Other programs currently in place address chemical and water recovery and discharge, transportation and logistics, and in-plant energy usage. Because we manufacture all of our water purification products in-house, Avidity is uniquely capable of controlling our green initiatives as well as our product quality.
We have been an active participant in our communities, devoting time and talent to several local organizations and charities. We consider quality to be our number one priority. Quality in our people, products and the service we provide.
History
In 1969, Bill Edstrom Sr, a mechanical engineer at an automotive company in Milwaukee and a chinchilla hobbyist, had an idea which would eventually lead to the formation of Avidity Science. The concept of providing drinking water to animals automatically was born from creative thinking, engineering wit, and a desire to make a difference. In 1969 Bill Edstrom Sr. knew it was time for a change. And that’s when he invented an automated watering system that would enable the automated delivery of clean, fresh water to animals living in cages. Within a year, Edstrom entered the laboratory animal market by introducing a watering system designed specifically for this industry.
By the 1980’s Edstrom was a recognized name in the laboratory animal vivarium market and made the move into expand to the agricultural industry with the launch of unique watering and cooling systems for swine. The 1980’s also saw Edstrom introduce a ground-breaking environmental monitoring system for the vivarium, known as Watchdog. In the early 2000’s, Edstrom established sales and service representation in Europe to accommodate its growth internationally.
Coinciding with this expansion to Europe, was the inception of Triple Red Ltd in 1998. The company’s co-founders, Jon Durrant and Lynda Lee, had many years of industry experience and backgrounds in the NHS, commercial sales and service delivery. From its humble beginnings, Triple Red grew consistently to its current form with over 60 staff, (30 of whom work directly in customer service) and has over 14,000 sqft of office and warehousing.
Triple Red
In late 2017 Triple Red was acquired by Edstrom Industries. The acquisition brought together a wealth of experience and knowledge from two industries into one complete company presence. The company has a focus on its overall competency in and ability to meet the requirements of our valued customers. We implement comprehensive training plans for our staff to ensure that they are equipped to assist you with your queries. Previously, In 2016, Triple Red introduced a new range of bench-top laboratory water purification systems. Designed and built in the UK to the highest standards the Puro, Geno, Duo, Alto and Pico ranges produce pure water to match the requirements of all research laboratories and hospital facilities, from primary grade, Type 3, to ultra-pure, Type 1, water.
CT Chemicals
CT Chemicals was acquired by Avidity Science in September of 2018. The original business started in 1987, when Greg and Bob were asked to come up with a water treatment for gold recovery for General Electric. They knew someone at GE that was having issues and they were asked for input. Then they got involved with Proctor and Gamble in making hard water for them. They had a relationship with a guy at P&G. They were blending chemicals for and then is evolved with custom water blends and then cartridges. Bob credits Greg for his “innate ability to get to know people and build a trusting relationship with him”. Bob labeled himself as the “back garage tinkerer”.
Today, we are known worldwide as a leader in the design, manufacture, installation, maintenance, and repair of water purification, and automated animal drinking systems as well as access control, light control, environmental monitoring. We service a variety of equipment in the life science, vivarium, and healthcare industries and are known in every corner of the globe.
