Filter Media
AWI - Puracite for Granular Media Filtration
AWI is an expert in granular media filtration technology. Our technical capabilities, products and services can improve the granular media filtration process in both industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment plants.
AWI - Filter Grade Silica Sand
AWI’s Silica Sand is carefully selected, double-washed, dried, and double screened to specific sizes to meet the demanding conditions present in filtration systems. The filter sand is custom-sized to ensure media compatibility during filtering and backwashing cycles. AWI’s Silica sand meets or exceeds all American Water Works specifications AWWA-B100 standards (latest edition).
AWI - Filter Nozzels & Strainers
AWI can provide a wide range of filter nozzle types with various slot sizes and air metering tubes. We provide technical sales assistance for all types of strainer nozzles, including polypropylene and stainless steel.
AWI - Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)
AWI Granular Activated Coal (GAC) is a premium grade granular carbon. AWI GAC is specially produced with a broad range of pore sizes to enhance absorption of colour bodies and organic impurities from process streams. GAC is acceptable for food and pharmaceutical applications. It is also used for purifications of acids, caustic liquors, plasticizers, soda ash, fatty acids, and other applications. GAC can be subject to the rigors of hydraulic transfer and thermal reactivation while maintaining minimal losses.
AWI GAC is made from a select grade of coal which is milled, compacted sized and thermally steam activated to yield a strong dense product with a large surface area. The pore structure is carefully controlled during the activation process to facilitate absorption of both high and low molecular weight organic impurities.
AWI - Manganese Greensand
Manganese Greensand is a purple/black filter medium processed from glauconite greensand. It is used for removing soluble iron, manganese and hydrogen sulphide from well water supplies and for removing radium and arsenic from well waters. Due to its unique chemical and physical properties, manganese greensand does not require extensive preconditioning which can avoid lengthy start-up periods during which the required water quality standards may not be met.
