Accumulated deposits of sulfuric acid-containing waste products, also called acid tar, can be found throughout the world. They are remnants from the former industrial processing conducted by the petroleum industry with concentrated sulfuric acids, primarily when refining waste oil. Because elimination and recycling options were deficient in the past, these waste materials were stored mostly in open depots (acid tar lagoons).

Baufeld-Umwelt-Engineering GmbH also focuses on the engineering supervision and management of carbon-derived contaminant remediation. These contaminants primarily include the residues from coal refining and gas production. The pollutants are present in numerous locations, and stretch beyond Germany`s borders in the form of open-air tar waste dumps. While these locations should indeed be viewed as problematic contamination sites, due to their high energy content they may still offer further recycling potential, after appropriate pre-treatment, as a substitute fuel resource. This would also make it possible to dispense with the costly but necessary safety measures associated with containment of the contamination.

In connection with the remediation of major acid sludge, tar and oil sludge storage sites, frequently the decontamination of adjacent soils are involved. Depending on the saturation with acid sludge, tar or oil, various technologies must be selected for soil processing. Water extraction, decontamination of arising contaminated waters and ground water remediation are collectively an important component of the remediation process. For the preparation and decontamination of contaminated soils and waters, BAUFELD-UMWELT-ENGINEERING GmbH works together with partner firms that have specialized in these areas regarding processing technologies and systems engineering.

The BAUFELD drivers are your competent and friendly partners on site − over 50 drivers with modern collection vehicles are available for all customer requirements. Multi-tank systems make it possible to collect different fluids in separate compartments on a single visit. Through an advanced telematics system, we have the opportunity to submit orders at short notice (in real time) to our drivers and can react flexibly to customer needs. All drivers are equipped with an electronic signature card and can sign the necessary accompanying documents electronically on-site at the customer‘s location, thereby saving our customers time and money.

Only top quality recycling products can hold their own on the market. In our own refineries, we have created the best conditions for producing high-quality base oil from used oil that can compete with primary products. The added value that is obtained in this way benefits our customers by providing a fair price/performance ratio. The group of refineries in which used oil is refined into quality products provides positive synergy effects. The manufacture of quality base oil in conformity with the European Waste Framework Directive and German used oil legislation has a high priority and requires process expertise and a special application of systems engineering. At the refineries of PURAGLOBE at the Elsteraue site, every year over 150,000 tons of used oil are processed by means of catalytic hydroprocessing into base oils of the highest quality using the HyLube method developed by UOP.
