The Buchen Group is among the leading industrial service companies in Europe.

With about 2.750 employees, the Buchen Group generated sales of approx. 337 million euros in 2011 in its three divisions: industrial service, waste disposal and remediation.

Founded in 1844, the company began to focus on industrial cleaning in 1965. Since then, it has operated wherever refineries, chemical groups and heavy industry are to be found. The Buchen Group has locations all over Europe. It believes in close customer proximity and systematic specialisation according to its customers' wishes.

As well as industrial cleaning and shutdown management, the company's extensive range of services includes a large number of specialties such as a tank service, catalyst handling, mobile sludge dewatering, and power station and nuclear services.

Reflecting the quantities of waste requiring special supervision that arise during almost all assignments, special waste disposal is the second mainstay of BUCHEN's range of services.

Remediation is a further major sector. For the huge range of different remediation projects, Buchen develops technically astute and economical solutions in close cooperation with its customers and the relevant authorities.

The BUCHEN Group is a member of the REMONDIS AG & Co. KG group of companies, one of the largest privately owned service enterprises in the water and recycling sector.

For more than 55 years, Buchen UmweltService has been a service partner to industry and commerce in the industrial service, waste disposal and remediation sectors.

This long-established Cologne company was founded back in 1844 as 'Pumpenmacherfabrik Johann Schumacher'. Three generations of Schumachers built up the company's position as a major partner to up-and-coming industry until finally, in 1948, Richard Buchen, the husband of a Schumacher granddaughter, recognised the opportunities for services in the industrial sector and transformed the manufacturing business into a service provider. The main service at that time was industrial cleaning with high-pressure water jet systems. At the end of the sixties, special waste disposal emerged as another important business area, and shortly after that remediation became another business service. These divisions were continuously expanded in the following decades.

Adhering to the principle of fairness

Our business activities are based on our Corporate Compliance Guidelines and our management teams and employees are obliged to adhere to these. This comprehensive Code of Conduct defines all relevant subject matters and applies to both the Buchen Group as well as to all other companies in the RETHMANN Group.

Integrated management system

Quality, health & safety and environmental protection (QHSE) are, and will remain, important factors for us and for our customers.

We first defined our 'Principles of Workplace Safety' back in 1986. Many of our customers viewed these as exemplary and very forward-looking.

Together with our employees, we then implemented these principles », which were subsequently developed further and refined. They are now completely reviewed every three years and updated as required.

Improvement is an ongoing process. Our integrated process-oriented management system which, since 1998, has combined the individual quality, health & safety and environmental management systems, forms the basis for this ongoing improvement.

The quality, health & safety and environmental management systems in all Buchen Group divisions throughout Europe are now adequately certified. In Germany all of our locations which provide waste disposal services to our customers also are officially recognised as specialist disposal businesses. We therefore offer all our customers a reliable QHSE partnership.

The slogan 'We - at Buchen ...,' refers to everyone who works for the entire group and its affiliates. The principles of our corporate policy represent a daily challenge which aims to fulfil our objective of ongoing improvement. They apply to each and every one of us and are mandatory.
