Donal Doherty, CEO and founder. is an award-winning research chemist who has worked at the cutting edge of technology in the global chemical sector. After graduating via the prestigious Plastics and Rubber Institute in the United Kingdom, Donal, a native of Donegal, Ireland, cut his teeth as a core member of the team that developed caprolactone and the applications of polycaprolactone in the nascent polyurethane markets, with Laporte Industries.

In the 1970s, Donal spent 7 years as a senior research chemist for the Loctite Corporation and was instrumental in developing catalysts for anaerobic adhesives. His work was fundamental in the successful manufacture of super-adhesives for which he was awarded the Krieble Award by Vernon H. Krieble, the founder of the Loctite Corporation.

By 2007, Donal, now established in Indonesia, realised the need for global chemical corporations to adopt a far greater focus upon the environment and, in the face of the climate change crisis, he turned his skills to the manufacture of biofuels from natural and waste resources. Donal invented Smart Catalyst to streamline biodiesel production and concluded that converting glycerol to glycidol was the way forward.

Since 2010, Donal has consulted with biodiesel processors around the world and demonstrated that incredible cost savings can be realised in both the process and utilisation of different materials.
