Central Basin MWD meets the water needs of more than 2 million people by working closely with cities, retail agencies and community-based groups to deliver innovative and successful solutions. Each year, Central Basin provides approximately 60,000 acre feet of imported water to its 227 square mile service area - a region that extends across 24 cities and unincorporated parts of Los Angeles County. Central Basin Municipal Water District is a public agency that purchases imported water from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD).Water Reservoir Central Basin wholesales the imported water to cities, mutual water companies, investor-owned utilities and private companies in southeast Los Angeles County. (Imported water is transported through the expansive Colorado River Aqueduct system and from Northern California.)
