A family business for more than 80 years, Chatham became part of the Reliance Steel & Aluminum family in 1998, further enhancing our ability to meet and even anticipate our customers’ needs. From its beginning as a scrap iron and metal business in Savannah, Georgia, the company Samuel Tenenbaum founded in 1915 has grown to become a major steel service leader for more than 2,500 active clients. Chatham continues to invest in new facilities, products, state-of-the-art metal processing equipment and information systems that improve our ability to respond quickly and accurately to our customers’ requirements.

In 2008, our management team committed the resources to enhance our quality program to serve the nuclear industry.  Chatham now supplies dedicated products that meet the stringent requirements of ASME NQA-1 standards.  Our capabilities in serving the nuclear industry will be expanding throughout the coming years.

Chatham’s primary product lines include carbon steel wide flange and I-beams, tubing, pipe, plate, sheet, angles and bars, as well as stainless steel plate, sheet, angles and bars. Chatham also carries a comprehensive inventory of high strength and alloy steel, aluminum and galvanized materials.

In addition to traditional wholesale product distribution, Chatham has advanced in-house processing
capabilities that include plasma and flame shape burning, shearing, sawing, forming, drilling, punching and machining so that we can work closely with customers to meet their unique needs.   Through the use of our advanced logistical system, Chatham offers superior reliable delivery service.

Our policy and procedures ensure confidence to our customers that all materials and services provided are certified, traceable and meet the applicable quality specifications. Our highly qualified and trained staff are equally focused on customer satisfaction and product quality.

Our Quality program is based upon the requirements of ISO 9001:2008, 10CFR50 Appendix B, 10CFR Part 21 & ASME NQA-1.

Durham has received it’s ASME Section III NCA 3800 Quality System Certificate (QSC) as a Materials Organization (MO).

We also implement orders that require compliance with the applicable requirements of 10CFR71 and 72. Additionally our Quality Program is compliant to the railroad standard AAR/M-1003.

Chatham Steel has an extensive approved vendors list in support of nuclear and commercial contracts which includes; testing laboratories, steel manufacturers, processors and other service providers. Additionally, Chatham has trained and qualified Lead Auditors on staff as well as dedicated Quality Control Personnel. We maintain the latest ASTM and ASME specifications as well as a library of past specifications that are now difficult to find. In addition, we have the experience and resources necessary to execute the requirements of these Codes and Standards.
