Chell produces pressure, vacuum & gas flow measurement & control solutions designed by engineers for use by engineers. Many of our solutions incorporate instruments and components such as thermal mass flow meters and controllers and capacitance manometers produced by our Principals, with all of whom we have enjoyed long-standing relationships. In many cases, where our customers identify gaps in product ranges, Chell has developed solutions to fill those gaps – Leak Rate Monitors for the Power Generation industry is an example. The greater proportion of our product range has resulted from customer enquiries and, after successful supply, have gone on into series production. Products such as our Air Ingress Monitor have been in service nearly 30 years, are now in their Mk4 version and are almost all still in service, returning annually to us for calibration. Similarly, the Leak Rate Monitor which has become a standard leak tester for the nuclear power industry.
Originally formed in May 1976, Chell Instruments' objective has always been to provide measurement & control instruments & systems appropriate for our customer's needs. At every stage from original sale, through design & manufacture to performance testing and calibration, a skilled engineer is in control. Most of our engineers commenced their employment with us whilst in college or university and remain loyal employees with unparalleled expertise in their fields.
Our commitment to pressure scanning applications, particularly in the aerodynamic testing of Formula 1 cars, both in wind tunnels and on the track has resulted in the development of specialist data acquisition systems, all based on feedback from the race teams.
All our products are manufactured in our own machine & electronics shops where precision CNC machining, TIG welding and helium leak testing are carried out, giving us total control over quality and performance. Ultra High Vacuum assemblies such as our Miniature Knudsen Cells are assembled in a clean area & tested on a UHV system.
Performance has been our watchword since inception and our policy has always been to provide calibration facilities for every measurement device we supply. This has resulted in an ISO17025 accredited UKAS calibration facility having some of the lowest uncertainties available outside National Standards, so that products purchased from us have the highest measurement integrity.

Many of our products carry firmware and are run in conjunction with a computer running software written by our specialist engineers for use by our customer's engineers and colleagues. This results in very practical solutions to often very complex measurement and control problems.
Every measurement instrument delivered is offered with calibration in our UKAS accredited ISO17025 laboratory so that our customers may be assured that the performance of their new device has the lowest possible uncertainties.
Many measurement applications have resulted in customer requests for help with installation, hookup hardware and operational software and we work closely with our principals to provide these fully engineered solutions, many of which become standard catalogue products.
