We are one of the oldest manufacturers of physical water treatment systems in the world. Our family-run business is headquartered in Berlin, Germany. CWT has more than 30 years of experience with eco-friendly water treatment. Our products are manufactured in Germany and are available in over 50 countries. This knowledge together with our high quality standard and genuine customer service accounts for the lasting success of our business. CWT water treatment products in over 70 countries all over the world.
1948 - 1970: The company was founded in 1948 by Hans Otto Christiani as „Hans Christiani & Co.“ in Cologne, Germany. He developed and manufactured his own water pumps and electronic controls. Driven by the triggering economic force in Germany (the 'Wirtschafts-Wunder“) the business rapidly grew in size. In 1959 the production moved to a larger industrial park in Cologne-Weidenpesch.
1970 - 1980: After successfully graduating from university as a business engineer, Rolf Christiani joined the company in 1975. He soon identified the growing demand for eco-friendly technologies. Thus, the development of physical water treatment units was added to the portfolio. Two years later in 1977 the first line of anti-scale devices was introduced to the market – the Catronic® Series. The successful products soon also captured the international market such as in France, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Scandinavia.
1980 - 1990: In 1980 the founder of the company Hans Otto Christiani passed away. His son was then in charge of the business. He decided to focus on the future market of „physical water treatment“ and expanded the manufacturing and distribution of the products. In 1984 the company was restructured under its current name „Christiani Wassertechnik GmbH“.
1990 - 2000: The fall of the iron curtain in 1989 opened up a new market for physical water treatment. In 1991 after a long period of research by Rolf Christiani an improved anti-scaling device was introduced – The Vulcan Line. The market quickly adapted to the new device and more than 150,000 units were sold in Germany alone. In May 1990 CWT moved to the manufacturing location of Eschweiler, Germany.
2000 - 2010: In 2005 Cedric Christiani joined the company and started to introduce the Vulcan technology to the international market. Soon larger units for industrial applications were introduced and successfully tested on the field. A fast expansion into Asia, South America and the Middle East called for extended marketing. In 2006 headquarters were moved to the German capital city, Berlin.
Today: The third generation in the family business is keeping their vision of 'Water as it should be“.
Unfortunately not everybody in the world has access to clean water. Over 60% of the world’s population suffer from lack of water and have no access to clean, safe drinking water. The situation in third world countries is especially worsened by environmental disasters, drought and long, raging wars.
It is our responsibility to help - We want to help make a difference.
Since May 2005 we have been supporting the well building project of the charity organisation ‘Plan International Deutschland’. The wells sponsored by CWT provide clean water to over 300 people daily in the African town of Guinea.
SODIS (short for Solar Water Disinfection) is an initiative of Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Sciences and Technology. For more than 10 years, it has been providing people in developing countries with access to clean drinking water. The aim is to educate the people on how they can disinfect water themselves in a few hours and thus prevent diarrhoeal diseases.
Yet again CWT sponsors the project, which educate people on how they can desinfect their water themselves.
