Their proprietary system, developed by environmental engineer Jeffrey Hanson and Bill Newman of RNAS Remediation Products Inc., is designed to mimic natural processes for cost-effective and efficient sulfate removal. Their approach leverages naturally occurring bacteria to transform dissolved sulfate into hydrogen sulfide, which is subsequently converted into iron sulfide and eliminated from the system. This technology addresses the ecological impact wrought by past mining practices, notably in Minnesota, where rising sulfate levels have endangered aquatic ecosystems, including wild rice habitats. Currently, the system is being tested on-site at a mining location, with future implementation backed by a potential grant from WICOLA. Unlike previous costly reverse osmosis solutions, Clearwater BioLogic offers a more economically viable alternative that holds promise for wider adoption in regions grappling with similar environmental challenges.
