Inhaler Testing

Aerodynamic Particle Size Distribution (APSD)

Together with delivered dose, aerodynamic particle size distribution (APSD) is typically identified as a Critical Quality Attribute (CQA) for orally inhaled and nasal drug products (OINDPs) making it a primary focus for in vitro characterisation. The APSD of an OINDP defines how particles behave in a moving air stream. It is intuitively relevant to the understanding of likely lung deposition and hence potential drug efficacy. Typically particles should be in the range of 1 to 5 microns to be effective, any larger than 5 microns and they are likely to impact the oropharynx and be swallowed, any smaller than 1 micron and it is possible that the particles will remain entrained in the air system. Delivered Dose Uniformity (DDU)

One of the four Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs) that determine the safety, quality and efficacy of orally inhaled and nasal drug products (OINDPs), delivered dose is the total amount of drug emitted from the drug device that is available to the user, when the device is actuated correctly. The uniformity of the delivered dose, or DDU, must be ensured within and between devices. DDU is measured by firing the test device into a sampling apparatus which contains a filter. The active drug caught on the filter is then dissolved in solvent and analysed using High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Depending on the type of OINDP under test, different apparatus set-ups are required. View Our Inhaler Testing Brochure at: copleyscientific.com/resources/downloads/

Ancillaries for Inhaler Testing

We offer a range of ancillary products required in addition to the dose collection device and cascade impactor to make up fully-operational systems for determining the Delivered Dose Uniformity (DDU) and Aerodynamic Particle Size Distribution (APSD) of orally inhaled and nasal drug products (OINDPs). Automation

Copley supplies a broad range of labour-saving devices and systems that semi-automation many routine and tedious testing procedures for both delivered dose uniformity (DDU) testing and aerodynamic particle size distribution (APSD) measurement. Tablet Hardness Testing (Breaking Force)

Combining the economy of a simple, easy to use hardness tester with the accuracy of microprocessor-controlled data collection, the compact TBF 100i hardness tester delivers precise tablet hardness and diameter measurements. Offering high tablet throughput, the intuitive touchscreen user interface of the TBF 100i streamlines test set-up procedures for users, whilst the built-in data processor provides analysts with tablet breaking force statistical analyses at the touch of a button. Tablet thickness and weight can also be recorded (optional). View Our Pharmaceutical Testing Brochure at: copleyscientific.com/resources/downloads/

Tapped Density - Model JVi 200i - Powder

A high reliability solution for routine measurement of the tapped density of powders, granules and similar products, the Copley JVi Series of testers offers all three methods specified in Eur. Ph. and USP. The JVi tapped density series provides detailed reports, including Hausner ratio calculations for a wide range of industrial standards. The JV 200i is a double-station tapped density system, supporting all associated attachments for Methods 1, 2 and 3.

Model FRV 100i - Tablet Friability Tester

Based on an original design by Roche, the Copley FRVi Series friability tester is an established standard within the pharmaceutical industry. Equipped with advanced design features, ranging from convenient sample loading and unloading to an integrated friability calculator, the FRVi Series streamlines the workflow associated with routine friability testing. The FRV 100i supports a single friability or abrasion drum.

Detergent Testing

Model TRG 800i - Tergotometer

The TRG 800i is supplied with resin paddles as standard. We also offer optional paddles with holes for fabric attachment (catalogue number: 6404A), which accept up to 12, 5 cm x 5 cm or 6, 8 cm x 8 cm swatches, meaning the TRG 800i can test between 48 or 96 individual swatches simultaneously (42 or 84 where refrigeration unit used). A separate attachment is also available for the evaluation of detergents used in domestic dishwashers (see TRG 800i Accessories below for further details).
