The combination of these specialized divisions has enabled Crofton to continue to support the needs of the ever expanding maritime and harbor communities, as well as the power generation and water distribution industries. With all divisions having a vested interest in the success of the project we are able to better manage, bring projects in on-time and within budget and provide the highest level of quality. Crofton is strategically located on the East Coast of Virginia, which enables quick access to the majority of the US population. This allows for rapid mobilization, material acquisition, and access to the majority of the US Ports, harbors, and client industries.

Crofton Diving Corporation has a rich history of service to the Port of Hampton Roads and its supporting industries.

After serving in the Navy during World War II, Juan F. Crofton returned to Hampton Roads and went to work as a diver for Submarine Engineering Company before deciding, in June 1949, to start a business with a friend, Ernest “Duke” Morris. Together, Juan Crofton and Duke Morris purchased the 50-foot wooden workboat, the Cromo, so named because Juan won the toss of a coin. Crofton-Morris Divers worked Hampton Roads for 19 years. In 1968 Duke decided to leave the diving business and Crofton Diving Corporation was born.

Setting up shop on the Norfolk waterfront, Crofton Diving Corporation worked for every shipyard in the area in addition to serving the numerous utilities and industries that kept the area thriving. In 1984, Crofton Diving Corporation expanded its services with the formation of Crofton Construction Services, a full-service marine construction firm. By 1986, and with the addition of Crofton Construction Services, the Corporation had grown out of its half-acre facility and moved across the river to Portsmouth and a 7 acre facility with 9000 square feet of office and warehouse space. It is from here that Crofton Diving Corporation and Crofton Construction Services continue to provide the same quality service that Juan and Duke provided starting in 1949.

Crofton shall draw on our depth of experience, range of qualifications, and will assemble a team for each project to ensure that a high level of quality service, respect, integrity, and project success are achieved throughout the life of the contract. Our quality goal is to meet or exceed our client’s expectations by performing services in a manner that produce the desired deliverables to the client within budget and on time.

Our quality control and management program has been modeled after that of the US Army Corp of Engineers and the US Navy, which both applies a high level of oversight and systems to ensure end products meet or exceed the desired project scope. Each of our management team responsible for QA/QC has been certified and trained by an accredited organization such as the Association of General Contractors (AGC) or the Association of Building Contractors (ABC). This allows for our QA/QC managers to effectively establish the following three basic elements of quality and to ensure our clients are satisfied upon the completion of services. One, establish clear controls; two, assign competent personnel; and three implement QC checks as the project proceeds.
