Many processing facilities to this day, still have compromised, porous concrete floors, which is a breeding ground for bacteria and can possibly lead to bug infestation. During wash downs, these organisms and bugs are flushed to the “old, cast iron drains”. Older facilities should seriously consider replacing floors with epoxy types and retrofit the drains with non-porous stainless steel floor drains.
