Dam-It Dams was launched in the year 2000 by a Fenton, Michigan man named Jack Nichols. After thirty years in the construction business, he saw first-hand the need for a fast and effective way to manage water that wouldn’t break the bank. He also knew it had to be environmentally friendly. To protect the precious natural resource of water, Dam-It Dams has developed an environmentally friendly method to manage water using his patented Dam-It Dams cofferdam system, in accordance with the Clean Water Act.
Best of all it’s eco-friendly! There’s no need to import resources, because it uses on-site water and, upon completion of the project, there is little to no trace of the Dam-It Dams cofferdam left behind.
- Adaptable – Our product conforms to virtually every type of landscape and weather condition, making it ideal for countless uses.
- Affordable – Our water-filled dams are reusable, making them more cost conscientious than the alternatives, as well as their predecessors, such as sandbags.
- Durable – Dam-It Dams water inflated cofferdams are made of industrial strength geo-textile materials that can withstand tremendous water pressure, and are puncture resistant.
- Environmentally friendly – We’ve engineered a cofferdam that uses on-site water, not imported earthen fill, which results in less impact being made on the landscape.
- Expandable – Our water inflated cofferdams can be linked as needed to form any length barrier with heights of 1′ to 12′, widths of 2′ to 23′
- Immediately Available – You can contact our company for purchase or rental in cases of emergency, or pre-planned projects.
- Portable – Because of the lightweight material used to create our cofferdams, and the simple usability of the product, it is easy to store in addition to moving from site to site.
- Temporary – Once removed from the work site, there are minimal traces of it’s existence, if any, and there is no structurally aesthetic changes to be seen/tolerated.
A portable cofferdam is any pre-fabricated water barrier that can be transported to and installed at a project site, oftentimes in response to an emergency rising water level situation, like a flood or the need for drier work environments. Cofferdams offer a reliable solution to many water damming or diversion necessities in the construction industry, as well as homes and businesses that need flood protection.
Our water inflated cofferdams use on-site water filled dual inner tubes that allow the dam’s chambers to slowly and evenly inflate, forming a strong, stable cylindrical barrier. As the inner tubes fill and water pressure builds, the dam unrolls in a controlled and steady manner to create the cofferdam and provide an even and gradual build to make it more secure. This method offers a superior barrier as compared to sandbags, which are often ill-equipped to handle large amounts of water or flood walls which create a long-term barrier that alters the aesthetic of a home or business from its original intended appearance.
Because our inflatable cofferdams work with the environment, they create effective water barriers that leave minimal or even no footprint on the environment. When the project is completed, the dam is then easily drained and rolled up for return, storage, or transport to another project site. They also don’t require the relocation of earthen-fill from another site or location in order to provide the safe and secure environment you and your crew should absolutely expect of a water barrier. In addition, their ability to be re-used, as well as their durability against oftentimes destructive conditions, means they’re less likely to become a burden that sits in a landfill somewhere instead of the handy and necessary tool and companion it’s intended to be.
Cofferdam Manufacturer Wins Most Innovative Product Award for Portable, Water-filled Dams
Cofferdams are probably not a frequent topic of conversation in most circles, unless you work for a company that has dedicated its entire existence to developing eco-friendly water control solutions. That dedication paid off for Dam-It Dams when the company received the “2013 Most Innovative Product MIP Award” at the annual World of Concrete Convention held this year in Las Vegas.
The MIP Award Program is sponsored by Hanley Wood, LLC – the premier media, information, and marketing services company serving the residential, commercial design, and construction industries. The Program gives attendees and audiences at the convention a chance to vote for the products they consider to be the most innovative. A panel of industry experts then review and select the MIP Award winners.
For the second year in a row, Grand Blanc-based Dam-It Dams, Inc. won the prestigious MIP Award in the General Tools & Equipment category. The company’s portable water-filled cofferdam systems were an “Industry Choice Winner” this year and an “Editor’s Choice Winner” in 2012.
“This is a real honor for us, especially winning last year and again this year” said Jack Nichols, President of Dam-It Dams. “We’ve traveled around the country and the world to implement the best solution for each challenge. To be recognized by our customers and our colleagues in this way is really special.”
Since 1928, Dam-It Dams has been an innovator in cofferdams. First used in 1736, most of todays cofferdams are typically conventional embankment dams of both earth-fill and rock-fill.
Dam-It Dams’ patented portable cofferdams, on the other hand, use on-site water to manage, move, dam, or divert water with minimal or no impact on the environment. The Company’s wide selection of various types of cofferdams offers a cost effective and highly adaptable solution for virtually every contractor’s need.
